("JUT SIDE of four—Phar Lap, w Comanche, Carradale, and Honour—there is nothing on the Randwiek landscape that looks like a possible Derby winner.

Two of them, Carradale and Honour, must be taken dp trust, because they haven’t raced this season, but both Phar Lap and Comanche have shown they can go nine furlongs, the furthest asked of them. In the Chelmsford Stakes, Phar Lap was second and Comanche (with a 71b. penalty) fourth, but the latter struck a good deal of trouble.

Though Phar Lap is my Derby fancy, 1 don’t expect him to have much on Comanche, and Carradale may beat Honour. They all look like turning out great colts, and, consequently, there will be all the more merit in the performance of whichever one proves the winner.-—Sydney “Referee” writer.
