ACTIVE NERVES
“I say, Jim, how do you keep so fit—so full of energy and ‘go’?” “That’s no secret, Joe, it’s merely active nerves.”
“But how do you keep your nerves active —mine get tired with overwork.” “That’s your fault, my boy, you don t feed them properly.” “Your everyday food, you know, does not contain enough nourishment to keep your nerves fit and active. You must feed them on proper nerve food. And you can take my word for it, Joe, Marshall’s Fospherine is the best obtainable. “‘Marshall’s’ gives new life and strength to your brain and nerve cells. “Got a bottle from your chemist or storekeeper today, Jot;. \ ou get 100 doses for 2s 6d.” •**
FORM POINTERS Of the horses engaged in the principal handicap the best form must be credited to Kick Off. The old fellow has improved with every race he had since running second to Havering at Wanganui. He won with a lot in i hand at Hastings and as the runner- j up is not in the race he looks like being hard to beat again. He gave Queen’s Choice no chance whatever over the last furlong, and that despite The fact that Queen's Choice finished well. The one trouble is that he might not have the same*rider, and he is the sort that needs a good horseman. Jen went solidly all through the hurdle event. He has a chance at Napier, as of the two horses that finished in front of him at Hastings will b© absent. The run that Best Friend had at Hastings should improve him for his engagement at Napier Park. He is a three-year-old Paper Money gelding from Halma and is one of T. F. Quinlivan's team. He lias been showing, good form on the Hastings tracks and* 1 he ran a fair race in the Trial Stakes, finishing just behind the placed horses. The good race that Chopin ran at the Hawke’s Bay Hunt meeting in August caused him to come into strong favour at Hastings. He ran a fine race, but had to go under in a close finish to Masher. War Worn, one of the Quin Abbey ! family, pleased by the manner in which he finished up his race in the Nursery Handicap at Hastings. He was running on jietter than anything except Simba at the business end, and might be useful. J
treated in the way of handicap, and if such is the case he should win if started. A fortnight ago he scored a very easy victory at Avondale in the two miles murdle race, carrying 10.2. It is said that his weight tomorrow is 9.3. Limerick having again developed lameness, he has been withdrawn from all spring engagements, and will be returned to New Zealand as eariy as j possible with a view to being treated to a long speTl. Air. H. A. Knight said he expects to have his horse back in Sydney for the autumn meeting. Racing circles received another shock today when Mid Kent was withdrawn from the Metropolitan Handicap owing to a burst heel. Limerick’s withdrawal has been a great disappointment. The newspapers, in featuring the incident, express the hope that the last has not yet been seen of the champion. The newspapers also give prominence to the great form being shown by the other New Zealand horses—Nightmarch, Paquito, Aussie and Pomp. The Randwiek course looks a picture after the recent rains. Large crowds are in Sydney from other States for the opening of the carnival.
