GARBAGE COLLECTION
TAKAPUNA CONTRACT LET A tender for collection and removal of borough garbage by Messrs. W. and H. Smale was accepted at a meeting of tho Takapuna Borough Council last evening. The contract is for two years. Tho town clerk stated that it was difficult to estimate the exact amount that the borough would save through the contract, but he considered that £IOO to £l5O a year would be a conservative estimate. A £ 1 for £ 1 subsidy will be paid on £4O received from the Poppy Day appeal. Application will be made to the Government for a further subsidy upon the augmented amount. It was suggested that the whole amount be spent on improvement works at Taharoto Park. Cr. J. A. Algie was welcomed back after nine weeks’ absence through illness.
