REFORM PARTY MEETS

FAREWELL TO SECRETARY MR. E. A. JAMES THANKED THIS SXJK’S Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. To_ say good-bye to Mr. E. A. James, Dominion secretary of the New Zealand Political Reform League, who has retired from his post, members of the Reform Party met yesterday in tne Opposition Whips' room in Parliament House. The Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, presided and presented Mr. James with a silver tea service. Mr. Coates proposed the toast of success and long life to Mr. James and spoke of the valuable work he had done for the Reform organisation. Several other members supported the toast and thanked Mr. James for the help he had given them in his official capacity.

Mr. James said he had never had occasion to regret his association with a party which had always had as its aim the maintenance of good government in the interests of the people. The present leader, Mr. Coates, had carried on the traditions and principles of the late Mr. Massey, and the time would come when lie would be again at the head of the country’s affairs. The Reform Party had a history, and in the.leisure hours of his retirement he would possibly undertake to write it. He asked for the party s support to the new secretary, Mr. A. E. Mander.
