SHOT WITH PEA-RIFLE
SMALL BOY HIT IN HEAD ACCIDENT AT PAERATA Rising suddenly from the ground when his companion discharged a bullet at a nearby bank, resulted in Richard Lewis, aged eight, whose parents live at Paerata, being shot in the head. The accident occurred on his parents' farm shortly before noon. The boy, with an older companion who was in possession of a rifle, went across the farm property. When a little distance from the farm the elder boy took a shot at a bank, the bullet hitting Lewis. He was taken back to the house and from there was driven to the Auckland Hospital by his mother in her motor-car. Shortly after admission to the hospital a slight operation was performed and this morning his condition is reported to be satisfactory.
