Y.M.C.A. DISPLAY OF GYMNASTICS VARIED PROGRAMME The degree of bodily perfection that can be attained by the practice of gymnastics and physical culture was demonstrated by members of the Young Men’s Christian Association at the annual display held in Scots Hall last evening. The performers were drawn mainly from leaders and members of the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium, while girls from the Y.W.C.A., the Mount Albert gymnasium and the Takapuna Methodist Club also appeared. A grand tableau opened the programme, followed by a parade in which all members of the company took part, and a company of boys under 11 years of age appeared in elementary drill, followed by girls of the Takapuna Methodist Club in scarf drill. The corps of the Y.M.C.A. showed various types of balancing in tableau form and performances were given on the Roman rings, parallel and horizontal bars. A tumbling act and an exhibition of sphere swinging was also given, while one member of the corps demonstrated the use of the electric clubs. Displays of free exercise and control marching were a feature of the evening, and a squad of boys went through Indian club drill. About 12 men demonstrated a set of “daily dozen" exercises. Dances were presented by Y.W.C.A. girls, a Swedish country dance, a Danish dance, and a special dance, “Pirouette," being well received. The Mount Albert gymnasium girls demonstrated exercises for grace and deportment. The final act was an exhibition of pyramid-building by 22 boys. Tho display was produced and directed by Mr. Frank Rogers, physical director of the Y.M.C.A.
