Short loans are quoted at o 3-8 per cent., compared with 45 per cent, last week, and three months’ bills are quoted at 6 3-16 per cent., compared with o 10-o2 per cent, last week. New Zealand, white and coloured, 93s to 945. RIPE BANANAS DEAR CALIFORNIAN FRUIT DUE Ripe repacked bananas maintained their high rates in sales in the City Marts tod;*.y. Mediums and seconds also sold well. Californian fruit, including grapes, Valencia oranges and a few plums, will arrive from Los Angeles today. M ORE bananas, and a supply of I tomatoes, will be brought when the Tofua arrives on Monday from the Islands. Good dessert and cooking apples are well sought, and so are the better lines of pears. The small shipment of Australian fruit brought this week by the Maheno sold at satisfactory prices. Valencia and Sydney navel oranges, passions, mandarines and pines were in the shipment. Oranges are selling well. The first lots of green peas reaching the markets at the present time are few but there should be larger offerings next week. New potatoes, locally grown, are increasing in supply, but Norfolk Island potatoes are finished. Other vegetables are generally heavily supplied. Killable lines of poultry were keenly sought in the auction today. In some cases, white Leghorn hens were practically in over-supply. Good : values were gained for choice cockerels and heavy hens. Only a fair inquiry existed for day-old chicks.
