CHURCH ANNIVERSARY
DEVONPORT CONGREGATIONALISTS The Congregational Church at Devonport during last week celebrated its anniversary with special services and a tea meeting. The school was opened in 1885 in the house of Captain Filder, near the site of the present school, the foundation stone of which was laid by Queen Makea of Raroto’nga in 1886. The school with some additions has sufficed for all worship purposes though the area on which it is built has been laid oijt to provide for the erection of a churcji as well. The present superintendent is Mr. H. Reason and during the ■ anniversary three past superintendents attended. They were Mr. W. Mitchell, whq has been connected with the school since 1888, Mr. J. Jarvis and Mr. H. Cooper. Help with the services was given by the Rev. Frederick Martin of the Methodist Church and the Rev. W. Busfield. The minister, the Rev. Cannell Hosking, spoke to the parents Mrs. W. Broberg and Mrs.. Hutchings trained the children for the concert.
