CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERMON

“Matter” was the subject of the lesson-sermon in First Church of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday. The golden text was from Psalms 56, iv.: "In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” The lesson-sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook; “Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy:—"We must reverse our feeble fiutcerings, our efforts to find life and truth in matter, and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mo: tal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the Godlike man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being.”
