AT DIXIELAND
MERRY EVENING AT CABARET-BY-THE-SEA Mr. 3rL Neilson and the Dixieland I Dance Orchestra were in particularly g-ood form on Saturday evening when a large crowd of dancers journeyed out to Auckland's popular' caburet-by-the-sea. Special lighting’ effects added new colour tones to the effective decorations. Hokianga, was l m a. frock of cyciamen georgette and ( gold lace. Aliss Joan Robertson was frocked in bois de rose taffeta. Miss Marjorie Cerutty had on a frock of persian rose georgette with crystal embroideries. Mi.®? -Biddy Philcox was in a frock of orchid lace. Miss Edna Ballantyne had chosen a delphinium blue corded taffeta frock. Miss L. Adams was frocked in chenille embossed georgette. Miss K. Tunks had chosen blush rose taffeta. Miss Gwen Court had on a frock of delft blue georgette. Miss Nina Wallace was wearing a georgette and lace frock. Miss Alison Laery had on a white taffeta period frock. Miss Doris Tills wore pa.e petunia sprigged taffeta with sprays of cyclamen and primroses. Miss Doreen Barwiek was in fuschia marietto with gold rose. Miss A. Adams had on a frock of floral taffeta. Miss Linda De Renzy wore silver tissue and pink net. Miss Ailsa Lewis was frocked in cream taffeta with tulle hem and green corsage spray. Miss D. Kenton had chosen a frock with white taffeta corsage and tulle ! skirt. Miss R. Fenton wore powder blue georgette with scarlet relief. Miss Rona Richardson was in black georgette with floral insets. Miss Dene Plummer chose silver figured lame. Miss X. St. Clair Whyte was wearing mauve frilled georgette with uneven hemline. # Miss Thelma St. Clair Whyte had on a pretty frock of cie! blue georgette with large hip rose. Miss Freda Gaudin wore rose pink tulle and satin. Miss Agnes Gordon was in black embossed georgette. Miss Welsh chose fox-glove taffeta and lace. Miss Alva Payne. Whangarei, was flocked in shaded pink georgette. Miss Alma Mackay, Whangarei, wore black embossed satin. Miss Ollie Sturt chose green georS \lfss Rene Woods was in a frock of gold lame. Miss P. Robertson wore silver tissue and pink shoulder posy. Miss Gladys Montgomerie, Hastings, had chosen black georgette embroidered in silver. Miss R. X. Jackson was m cream georgette appliqued in gold. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY JOLLY DANCE EVENING AT PAPATOETOE f A delightfully gay coming-of-age party was given by Mr. and Mrs A. C. Lipscombe at their resi- j dence, Landscape Road, Papatoetoe, on Saturday evening in 1 honour of the coming-of-age of their daughter, Rona. The rooms were prettily decorated with streamers of green and gold, from which were suspended numbers of gaily-coloured balloons. Tall vases of Iceland poppies and golden daffodils added a touch of colour to the decorative scheme. A number of very enjoyable musical items were given by Misses Audrey Fitness, GueldaFitness, Ivy Smytheman. Gladys Hosking, Messrs. Victor Smytheman and Nelson Morey. Novelty competitions added gaiety to the function. These were won by Miss Mona Waters and Mr. David Nib lock. Miss Guelda Fitness, Miss Nancy Leonard and Mr. W. Shelling. The balconies had been arranged as a supper room and lounge. The supper tables looked most attractive with crystal vases of daffodils and ! Iceland poppies. A prettily-iced tiered J birthday cake, mounted with 21 spark- S ling candles, held place of honour. Mr. j Ray Lady proposed the health of the guest of honour and presented her ! with a key of the door. Miss Lipscombe suitably responded. Mr. Fallwell proposed the toast of their host t and hostess. Air. Lipscombe re- I sponded.
Airs. Lipscombe wore a delightful gown of black georgette, with draped overskirt of fine Chantilly lace, finished on hip with brilliant ornament. Aliss Rona Lipscombe was wearing a pretty picture frock of lily of the valley crepe de chine. Among those present were: Aliss Doris Lipscombe, wearing a dainty frock of sunset embossed georgette, finished with paon blue shoulder posy. Aliss Phil Lipscombe, whose frock was of duchess blue georgette, worn with an orchid pink shawl. Mrs. Murray Wiseman, junr., who wore a frock of ivory georgette, with skirt of tiny frills. Airs. Wes. Firth, was in a smart gown of black georgette, with autumn-tinted reliefs. Mrs. Frank who was wearing black georgette daintily beaded in silver, and oriental shawl. Airs. Ronald Smith, frocked in black ninon, with large ■ crimson posy, and old English lace shawl. Miss Alargaret. McFarland was in a period frock of lime taffeta, with touches of green. Aliss Gladys Grin ter. whose anklelength frock was of pale green embossed georgette. Aliss AT. Goodfellow, Waihou, wearing a frock of wallflower crepe de chine, with sequin trimming, and embroidered shawl. Aliss Audrey Fitness, who wore a. frock of resida green satin beaute, with side drapings, finished at waist with a posy. Miss Alary Wakelin was wearing a pretty picture frock of floral patterned ninon‘in tonings of betty blue. Miss N. Leonard, whose frock was of tangerine georgette, with trimmings of hand-made lace. Aliss I. Barker, who was in sulphur embossed georgette, with trimmings of silver and shawl to 'tone. Aliss M Fitness, who was wearing canary embossed georgette, with uneven hem and shawl to tone. Aliss Alona Waters, wearing a frock of unrelieved black georgette. Aliss Violet O’Hara, whose frock was. of rainbow tulle, worn over green and finished with a pbsy. Miss Ivy Smytheman, who was in a frock of sunset satin carreau finished with a spray. Aliss G. Hosking, wearing a burnt orange georgette frock, with draped skirt. Miss Ida Parkinson, who wore a frock of mignonette georgette, with handkerchief skirt. Aliss Joyce Wakelin, frocked in rose du barri charmeuse, with reliefs of champagne. Aliss Rennie Wiseman, who was wearing a frock of moss rose georgette. Miss E. Snelling, who wore a frocjc of japonica pink georgette. Aliss Ala vis Landon, whose frock was or viola purple crepe elise, with bouffant skirt. Aliss ATavis Young, frocked in forget-me-not blue, crepe de chine, with uneven hemline. Aliss Dot Leighton, wearing a frock of moss rose georgette, with insets of silver lace. Aliss X. Snelling, who was in a frock of lilac georgette, finished with canary spray and oriental shawl. Aliss P. Landon, who was frocked in black and white beaded georgette.
