Mrs. Hood was wearing a nile green satin frock, with feather trimming. Miss LX Barnott was in blue chenille georgette. Miss Earle had chosen a frock of ivory satin. Miss Bailey was frocked in pink floral satin and georgette. Miss A. Clark had on a frock of ivory satin and tulle. Miss M. Barnes wore black satin and georgette. Miss Mavis Martin bad chosen lavender georgette and lace, with uneven hemline. Miss Elsie Bannister was in a frock of black sequined georgette. Miss E. Bannister chose lemon taffeta and tulle. Miss Alma Costello was wearing pearl grey accordion-pleated georgette. Mrs. W. Paul was in a frock of silver and pink lace over pink georgette. Miss Redding wore a frock of gold beaded georgette. Barker was frocked in sky-blue crepe de chine, beaded in silver. Mrs. D. West had on a frock of black georgette, embroidered with silver beads. Miss Doris Stewart wore black georgette and lace. INSURANCE COMPANY’S ANNUAL DANCE ■ .! PRETTY DECORATIONS A most enjoyable evening was spent in tlio Amateur Operatic Society’s Hall on Friday the occasion being tho annual At Home oT the sta.ll of the New Zealand Insurance Company. A delightful decorative effect was gained with the colour scheme of blue and gold, this taking the form of streamers and prettily shaded lights. Dancing was enjoyed to all the latest dance items, these being given by Mr. Hubert Hoffman’s Orchestra, encores being enthusiastic and imperative. Among those present were: Airs. A. Johns, Miss G. Airs. Vialoux. PAPATOETOE ORPHANAGE ! SURPRISE PARTY FOR 85 CHILDREN A surprise party tea was given to the children of the Papatoetoe Anglican Orphanage on Friday evening by a number of friends. The spacious dining-room had been \ prettily decorated with a canopy of coloured streamers, from which hung balloons, and the tables were decked with masses pf spring flowers. Eighty-live children sat down to tea, and the opportunity was taken to celebrate the birthdays of nine of the children, which fall in September. A beautifully*, iced birthday cake occupied place of honour, and fancy paper hats added gaiety to the function. On behalf of the guests of honour, Arthur Pike thanked the children for their good wishes. After tea a delightfully gay evening was spent in games, competitions and music. The competitions were won by Daisy Mills, DiTsy Burgess, Fat Edmonds and Clya© Marshall. Items were given by Aliss Avis Hill, in quaint and pleasing Dutch and folly dances; Zoe Richards, elocutionary item: Mrs. Meek. song; Aliss Audrey Willerton, pianoforte solo Aliss Dulcie Hughson was accompaniste. AJiss E. A. Clark, of Otahuhu with her pupils, assisted in the entertainmem of the children with Zelph Stevenson, pianoforte solo; Zoe Kearney scarf dance; Gertie Elliss, Irish tic ami rosebud dance; Misses E. A. Clark and Uaim. pianoforte duet; Master Clirtord Richards gave a couple of recitations, which were well received Mr. Parker Mill carried : out tliduties of master of ceremonies. At the conclusion of the programme supper was served and the tuncUon terminated with the singing of " Vuld Lang Syne."
