HOBSON'S CHOICE

JOY-RIDE OR BUSINESS? DEMONSTRATION NUMBER Tlie predicament of a motorist who is caught driving with demonstration number plates on Sunday was explained by Sub-Inspector McCarthy at the Police Court this morning. “He is between the devil and the deep blue sea,” he said. The sub-inspector said that the driver of the car was caught both ways. If he said he was on business he could be charged with carrying on his business on a Sunday, and if he admitted that he was just going for a joy-ride, he could be brought up on another charge. G. R. Crquhart, who was one of the unhappy motorists referred to, was fined £1 and costs for working at his trade on a Sunday.
