New Zealand Horses Figuring at Rosehill

TOMORROW’S BIG BILL 39 DOMINION ENTRANTS After the triumphal march of j Dominion horses at Randwick last Saturday, a repetition may be too much to hope for at the Rosehill meeting tomorrow. New Zealand horses figure in all the events, so there should pc a winner or two from this part of the the world. The following New Zealand horses wore accorded an entry for the Koseliill fixture tomorrow; Hurdle Race, about 2 miles.—Home -Mad,-. Kilperon and Kawhetu. U amelia .Stakes, 7 furlongs.—Gay Ballerina, Paquito, Arikinui, Crown Area I Bright Glow, Tea Miss, Reonui, Royal I Luke, Cimabue and Helotis. [ The next event, the classic, has the I following engaged after the liz-si forfeit:— 1 Rosehill Guineas, of £3,000, 9 furlongs (all New Zealanders 'Peacemaker, ■ Phantom Reef and Phar Lap; and Rallier, W' odgera, Gallant Top, Comanche, Magnifier, Violin Solo, Holdfast, Two Barrens, Cathmar, Royal Money, Dreamdale, Pentheus, Sir Kibble, Malayan, King Crow, Perfect Son, Sackbut, Firbolg, Lorason, Eton Blue, Toper, Tangent, Carradale, Parkwood, Beau Clare, Draconic. Rosehill Handicap, 1 mile 3 furlongs.— Papatu, Nightmarch, Briar Root, The Banker, Stormy, Tidal, Oratrix, Concentrate and Eden Hall. Hill Stakes, 1 mile (weight-for-age). Complete entries are:—Aussie, Nightmarch, Limerick, Crown Area, Black i Duchess, Cathmar, Fujisan, Lord i Eudorus, Loquacious. Amounis, Kidaides, j Mollison, Hamulus, Valparaiso and Winaj lot. (Limerick’s trainer announced early j this week that the crack would not race ! until the A. J.C. spring meeting.) j High-weight Handicap. 7 furlongs. i Goldminer, Arikinui, Bright Glow, Becalmed. TNntadawn, Gesto. True Shaft, I Oral, High Disdain and Perception. There i Wfr /‘ H nominations for this race, which j probably means a division. A Critic’s Review j Mollison was at odds on favourite when ho won the Rosehill Guineas last year, but there will be no such outstanding favourite this year, wrote a Sydney writer on Thursday of last week. If Honour had figured in the list he might have been the pick, as, though doubt exists as to whether ho will get a mile and a-half, it. is improbable the Guineas distance would have bothered him. it says a Jpt for the pluck or optimism of owners that several of those still in survived the first forfeit. Applying form, they can have little hope of success, but it can be pointed out that a similar idea prevailed regarding Toper’s chance of downing Holdfast in the Ilobartville Stakes. In the past the Guineas lias given some surprises, but it will upset punters’ ideas if, for instance, Sackbut or Two Barrels should so vastly improve on their two-year-old deeds as to defeat either Comanche, Carradale, Pentheus, Toper, Holdfast or others. If it were a handicap it is practically certain Comanche would have pride of place, and though unplaced in tho Hobartville Stakes he has since pleased so greatly in his work that lie may be the popular choice. May Alter Ideas Chelmsford Stakes running may have some bearing on that, and perhaps Parkwood may bring himself well into notice. He has done solid work since lie ran at Warwick Farm. (Mollison beat Phar Lap in the Chelmsford Stakes.) As Parkwood was able to bang on to Mollison for six and a-lialf furlongs, ho should go a long way further when opposing horses of his own age. Pie will be one of the most brilliant in the field, and is in such good trim that lie is going to be one of the hardest to beat. Phar Lap finished ahead of him in the Warwick Stakes, but it will trouble the chestnut to repeat that performance on Saturday week. Pentheus and Violin Solo are improving with each gallop, and of the two the former may be the better, notwithstanding Violin Solo finished well when he ran second to Ticino. Woodgera is useful, and though Peacemaker has not been a success up to the present, lie has made such great improvement during the past month that if he continues to progress in the same fashion he is sure to win a race before the spring meetings are over. No matter what excuses may be made, it is undeniable that Toper did a little better than Holdfast at the end of seven furlongs, and should hold him at nine. Even if Holdfast is allowed to use his pace he will not be able to get far away from Parkwood, and a stronger finisher may beat both. Are They Good Enough? On track form Lorason seems slightly better than' Firbolg, and though Eton Blue won a division of the Flying Welter at Canterbury Park with B.S, it cannot be overlooked that Goldminer won another division of that race with 9.4 and in faster time. At Warwick Farm Goldminer had no Chance in the Hobartville Stakes. Magnifier, Cathmar and Sir Ribble are colts of class, but unless Carradale shows to great advantage in his work after bis .arrival in Sydney, it is probable Comanche and Parkwood will receive most attention from backers. May Do Better Whatever chance of winning the Pakuranga sprint last month Marble King possessed was lost when he drew number 15 at the six-furlong barrier. After his consistent form at Trentham the previous month, many were waiting for Marble King at Ellerslie. In the race the gelding was among the rear division over the early stages, and he was not within striking distance of the leaders at the home turn. ’At the finish, however, he was within range of the placed horses, being closer than at any part of the trip. If Marble King has gone on the right way since ho may perform well enough to win the “second-class’* sprint tomorrow, the Members' Handicap.

ho can be depended on to go stolid there will be more money awaiting him. Peter McKinney is just the type of trotter, when going all square, that will win a big race this season.

Busy Time Ahead Etta Cole, while not being asked any serious questions just yet is looking nice and bright, and there is no doubt F. Gilchrist will have the attractive

chestnut square-gaiter in good form for next month’s engagements. If Owner Docherty adheres to his present intentions the daughter of Peterwah will race at Claudelands and Alexandra Park next month, and in November she will go to Addington in charge of J. Shaw. Etta should do well in the South on the dirt track at Addington when the going is firm, or in fact on any course where she can trot on top of the ground.

Coming North Early Nell de Beau, the promising pacing mare belonging to Mr. Geo. McMillan and at present under the supervision of Roy Berry, at Templeton, is booked to appear at Ashburton tomorrow, where her prospects must be considered bright in the ten furlong flutter. After

competing in this event, Nell de Beau will come to Auckland and go into F. J. Smith's stable to be prepared for fixtures scheduled in this province for October and November. The mare should meet with further success while under the English mentor’s cafe.
