“FISHY” TAINT IN PORK

N.Z’S TRADE MENACED CAUSED BY FOOD Numerous complaints regarding a “fishy” taint in the pork shipped overseas Have been received by the New Zealand Co-operative PigMarketing Association, states the latest report of the association. Home buyers complain that there is a noticeable taint of fish flavour in the pork. The cause of this fishy taint, states the Pig-Marketing Association, is the practice of feeding whale oil and fish meals to pigs. Unless this practice is abolished for at least two months prior to marketing, the association considers that New Zealand's overseas trade in pork will be seriously affected. At the moment the association is finding difficulty in meeting demands made upon it. The report states that many hundreds more pigs could have been sold if they had been available.
