MORRINSVILLE NOTES
A proposal to erect municipal offices with fire brigade station at an estimated cost of £2,000 was introduced by the Mayor, Mr. W. McPherson, at the last meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council. Members generally favoured the proposal, but Cr. Donald thought provision should be made for a new library. The question was referred to the Finance Committee. The annual meeting of the Morrinsville Horticultural Society was held this week, and the attendance showed a far more optimistic spirit than last year. The balance sheet showed a debit on the year’s working of £2l 12s, leaving a credit balance in the bank of £37 4s. The actual show showed a loss of £l4. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. G. llowie; president, Mr. W. Clement Cargill; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. F. Oates and C. S. Brown; committee, Mesdames F. Ellis, S. H. Cornish, R. C. Gray. C. S. Brown, Messrs. R. C. Gray. W. Morrice, E. McGregor and Vendt; secretary. Miss Ha nan; treasurer, Air. J. H. Wyatt; auditor. Air. T. J. Ryan: schedule committee, Airs. S. H. Cornish. Alessrs. R. C. Gray and C. Brown; donation committee, Alessrs. W. C. Cargill and G. F. Oates.
Tho Morrinsville district has felt honoured by the appointment of Rev. K. A. Karaka to the position of Canon of St. Peter’s Cathedral. Hamilton. Air. Karaka has served in the Alorrinsville district for 21 years and has been a great advocate of Alaori mission work, giving his services on every available occasion. The induction will take place in the cathedral on September 29.
