RATEPAYERS MEET

MANGERE EAST DISTRICT About 100 ratepayers, mostly employees of the railway workshops who have recently taken up homes in the Mangrere East district, met on Thursday to enable Messrs. House and Rickards, local members of the Manukau County Council, to reply to several questions regarding rates and other subjects. Tho railway men have had several meetings lately to discuss the requirements of their respective settlements, about 80 houses having been built on various estates. Questions were answered, including thoso which concerned the water supply and the basis of valuation, and" a, review of the position of the riding was given. The meeting terminated with a resolution that the time was opportune for the local residents to form themselves into a ratepayers’ and residents’ association. This proposal was endorsed by both Mr. House and Mr. Rickards.
