BIRD-LOVERS MEET
AVICULTURAL SOCIETY ENCOURAGING YOUNG MEMBERS The annual meeting of the Avicultural Society of New Zealand was held on Monday evening, with a full attendance of members. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr. St. Alban-Smith, of Singapore, for his efforts in sending a consignment of birds to th© society. It was also decided to form a junior branch of tho Avicultural Society, the annual fee to be 5s a year, the age limit to be 18 years. These school boys and school girls are to be in touch with members residing in their district, and information and instruction is to be given to them at regular intervals. Members will arrange for visits to their respective aviaries by both members and junior members. Breeding certificates for the first breeding of foreign species of birds other than the commonest kinds will shortly be issued to members fulfilling the conditions. The rules governing th© award of th© English Society’s medal are to be followed as far as possible.
It was decided to support the next annual show of the Canary and Cage Bird Club, and endeavour to have on display many foreign birds not seen by th© public before. Th© following officers were elected for th© ensuing year:—President, Sir George Fowlds; vice-presidents, the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. G. Baildon), Mrs. J. P. Campbell and Mr. G. M. Corbet: chairman of the Executive Committee, Professor Sperrin-John-son; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Rowland Hutchinson; executive committee, Mr. E. V. Clay, Mr. W. J. Crowther and Mr. A. E. Knowles.
