TOBACCONISTS’ HOURS

CLOSING TIMES FIXED (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, Today. In the Gazette published last evening the closing hours for tobacconists’ shops in the City of Auckland, the Boroughs of Birkenhead, Devonport, Mount Eden, Newmarket, Northcote* Onehunga and Takapuna, and the town districts of Ellerslie, Glen Eden, New Lynn and Henderson are fixed as follow: On and after September 16, 1929, all tobacconists’ shops within the combined district shall be closed in the evening of working days as follows, subject to closing not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing day:—On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, at S.ld p.m.; on Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10.30 p.m., with the following exceptions: (lj Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Saturday as the statutory closing day the closing hour on v\ ednesday for such shop shall be 9 p.m and on Friday 10.30 p.m.: (2) should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Friday as the statutory closing day the closing hour on Wednesday for such shop shall be 9 p.m. Between December 15 and January 10 there shall be no fixed closing hour. All other shops in which smoking requisites are sold shall be required to observe the same hours as those of tobacconists’ shops. These hours have been fixed in response to a requisition signed by not less than twothirds of the tobacconists in the districts concerned.
