BYRD PRAISES CAPTAIN

ELEANOR BOLING’S MASTER (From Our Own Correspondent) DUNEDIN, Today. A recommendation has been forwarded to the United States Navy Department by Commander Richard H. Byrd, suggesting that Captain C. L. Brown, master of the Eleanor Boling, should be made a lieutenant of the senior grade in the merchant marine Commander Byrd reports that “Captain Brown, in charge of the supply ship, Eleanor Boling made a hazardous and difficult voyage to the Bay of Whales and back to Port Chalmers, and in negotiating the ice pack in a steam vessel accomplished a feat which many declared could not be done.”
