ELECTION GAMUT

JUNIOR UNITEDS’ MOCK PARLIAMENT TAXING BACHELORS Tlio gamut of typical election-time interjections and controversy was run when members of the Junior United Political Organisation held a third sitting of a mock Parliament in the Chamber of Commerce last evening. A Bill to impose a super-tax on bachelors over the age of 25 years was not approved entirely by the speakers. The mover contended that many of New Zealand’s unmarried men were not bearing a fair share of the taxation burden. Others thought present taxation was quite enough. The “House” divided, and the motion was lost by a considerable majority. Interest in the mock Parliaments is increasing, and capable speakers have been found. The “House” will meet again on Monday evening next. A Bill to increase the tariff on imported timber will be debated.
