WOMEN’S PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE
DANCE TO RAISE FUNDS Under the active presidency of Dr. Wilkie, the Waitemata Women’s Progressive League, has been busy for the past year or two in attending to those things on the “seamy side” of life in Takapuna. . The league has brought sunshine — and in some cases the necessities of life —into homes that otherwise would not have known the blessings of such things. The relief of necessitous cases is not the only phase of the work done by this league. In her capacity as medical inspector under the Education Department, Dr. Wilkie has noted the number of children with defective eyesight, whose parents are not in a position to pay for optical correction. In Takapuna, such cases are now under the. vigilant care of this branch of the Progressive League. In order to raise funds for its work, the league held another of its series of dances in Daly's Hall, Takapuna. on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent muster of patrons, all of whom appeared to enjoy the evening. The music was dispensed by an orchestra of seven players, under the baton of Miss M. Daly, and supporting items we.re contributed by Mrs. G. P. Reston, Miss Kathleen Reid, and Messrs. Roberts and Hawke. The committee responsible for the successful evening consisted of Mrs. Wilkie (president), Mrs. J. A. Algie (secretary), and Mesdames Christy, Hodgkinson. Bestic, Maw, Kicks, Coulthard, and Stevens.
