NOISY TRIO
DISTURBED WESTMERE RESIDENTS SWAG OF BEER AND WHISKY “These young men were going from house to house fighting and disturbing the neighbourhood. It was 1 o’clock on Sunday morning, and they had a swag of beer and whisky.” CO Constable Mahoney at the Police KJ Court this morning described the behaviour of three young men who were charged with being disorderly while drunk in Grey Lynn. The names of the trio were John Tleathcote Caldwell, a labourer, aged 22, William Vincent Smith, a labourer, aged 19, and Frederick Harman Boulter, aged 26. Caldwell did not appear, having been released on bail, but the other two pleaded guilty. Constable Mahoney said that he had been called by residents to the Westmere Estate, where the young men had been behaving very noisily. “Caldwell was doing his best to get the others away and was not nearly as bad as tbes© two,” added the constable. Smith and Boulter were each fined £2 with witnesses’ expenses 10s each. Caldwell was fined ss.
