WAIUKU COMPETITIONS

The Public Hall at Waiuku was crowded on Monday evening when the prize-winners of the competitions held on Friday and Saturday, repeated their prize-Winning items. The excellence of the work of the performers was much appreciated and although the programme was a lengthy one several encores had to be given. Mr. C. J. West, chairman of the VVaiuku School Committee, thanked all for their support in making the competitions such a. success, especially mentioning the work carried out by the secretary, Mr. W. S. Bridle. Beferring to the judge at the competitions, the president mentioned that Mrs. Griffiths had again carried out her arduous duties in a painstaking manner, and her awards had been well received. Mr. Bridle mentioned that he had been requested by the judge, Mrs. Griffiths, to state that four of the competitors were outstanding and would hold their own in any competitions in New Zealand, the four mentioned being IMrs. N. McDonald (recitations), Master H. Parker (piano), Master Dawson (song) and Miss I’. Stanton (recitations). The judge stated that she was giving a. special prize to Miss P. Stanton as the best junior performer. The prizes won were then presented to the Successful competitors. It is estimated that about £l4 will be available for the school funds.
