TRIBUTE TO LAWYER

LATE MR. G. N. HAYES (From Our Own Correspondent) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. A tribute to the memory of the late Gl. N. Hayes, whose death occurred yesterday, was paid at the Dargaville Magistrate’s Court this morning by Mr. D. L. Ross. A large number of the legal profession attended. Referring to the late Mr. Hayes. Mr. Ross said that ,by his zeal and integrity since coming to this district 2u years ago he had built up a lucrative practice, and liad retained throughout the confidence of the public. In court Mr. Hayes was an outstanding personality, who fought with a tenacity of purpose, but was always a fair, honourable and zealous opponent. He gave of his best, as a citizen, to worthy objects, and his loss to Dargaville was severe. To Mrs. Hayes and family, and to his two partners, Mr. Ross, on behalf of the legal practitioners and police, expressed their sympathy. As senior justice of the peace, Mr. A. E. Harding expressed sympathy with Mrs. Hayes and family. Other speakers included Mr. J. J. Sullivan, as a representative of the Auckland Bar, and Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M. Mr. F. S. Goulding, on behalf of Mrs. Hayes and family, Mr. Hayes’s brothers and sisters, and his partner, Mr. Mitchell, briefly acknowledged the sentiments expressed.
