CLAUDELANDS LAMENT “WE WANT A CURATE” (Prom Our Otcn Correspondent) HAMILTON, Thursday. Current topics concerning Anglican affairs in Hamilton were amusingly burlesqued at a social, mock court and dance arranged by the Claudelands Anglican Men’s Committee last evening. The Very Rev. Dean Barnett preMuch merriment was caused by the following verse, sung by Mr. F. A_ Snell, who was disguised as an old lady:— “Who wants a Curate?” “We,” said the Parish. “But the Bishop will not have it; "We want a Curate.” All the Claudelands people fell A-sighing and a-sobbing. When they heard that the Curate Wasn’t coming, wasn't coming. This parodv on “Cock Robin refers to the refusal of Bishop Cherrington to grant a licence for an assistant priest for the big Cathedral Parish of Hamilton. This is said to be a definite result of the quarrel between the Bishop and the Dean. The Dean is at present -ministering single-handed to a huge district, including the out-districts of Gordonton, Claudelands, Hamilton East, Matangi and Piako Road. . The funds of last evening s social were devoted to the Hamilton East parishioners, who are anxious to build a church of the ; r own.
