Huia Girls’ Club Holds Bright Dance
Black and Gold Makes Effective ColourScheme SUCCESSFUL PAPAKURA FUNCTION Last evening: the Papakura Hula Girls' Club held u most successful dance in the Parish Hall, Papakura, lor the benefit of the club’s funds. Delightful dance music was supplied by Mr. Philip, Hardman. Extras were played by Miss Mary Andrew. The hall was prettily decorated in the club colours of black and gold, streamers of these colours, with bunches of bright balloons, making an effective display. Among the women present were: Mrs. D. Bilkey, whose frock was of rose pink georgette: Miss Joan Hollis, in a frock of pompadour pink georgette, with frilled skirt dipping to the ankles; Miss Mavis O'Neill, who wore spangled net over pink taffeta; Miss Hilda NicoT, Ardmore, wearing a frock of ivory satin dipping to ankle length, and shawl to tone; Miss Mary Smith, in a draped frock of peach georgette; Miss P. Lever, who wore blue art silk and silver lace; Miss Xora Cross, Ardmore, wearing apricot crepe de chine and posy; Miss Ida Searle, who chose cyclamen crepe de chine lace; Miss Stella Andre, who was in mauve crepe de chine, uneven hemline. Miss K. C. Wood, wearing silver tissue and blue taffeta; Miss Rewa Johns, Pukekohe, who chose flame crepe de chine: Miss Bernice Cosgrave. in midnight blue georgette and silver lace; Miss Gladys Rushworth, Auckland, who wore a Venetian blue frock with uneven hemline; Miss W. Whelan, in a frock of green georgette; Miss Jess MacKenzzie, Kaukapakapa. whose frock was of hand embroidered apricot georgette: Miss M. Andrew, who chose cardinal red ninon. silver lace, trimming; Miss M. Muir, in orange crepe de chine and tulle; Miss W. Rhind, wearing buttercup yellow crepe de chine; Miss Thelma Spragg. Ardmore, who wore cyclamen crepe de chine with head trimmings; Miss Jrene Singleton, Hawera, in black velvet with hand-painted panel.
ORIGINAL NIGHT ARRANGED BY LITERARY CIRCLE HAMILTON CLUB’S “OPEN EVENING” On Monday evening the literacy circle of the Lyceum Club in Hamilton arranged for their “Open Night” a programme of original work. In consequence the many club members who were present had a most enjoyable evening and were able to see some of the work of the circle. Mrs. E. Walders, the convener, in announcing the items, made a few short explanatory remarks. There were stories by two of the members, essays and verses interspersed with pianoforte solos by Mrs. E. V. fStace and Miss Norah Valder. Then followed a sparkling one-act comedy by Mrs. W. J. JStevens, “A Man’s Job.” The setting was an everyday home, where the wife, owing to her husband’s illness, had filled his position most successfully—indeed far more so than he. He in the meantime had. entered upon running the house with great efficiency, and later showed that he found time to develop his literary tastes. The visits of relations and the humorous family conversations made a merry half hour that ended with loud applause. Mr. Stokes, Henry, was read by Mr. Ziman; Mrs. JStokes, Emily, by Mrs. Ziman; Isabel Hayes, a cousin, Mrs. T. Rogers; Qrand Aunt Sarah, by Mrs. Kieher-Harrison; and Betty, a school girl, by Miss L. Progressive bridge was played in the large double room, where masses of heliotrope buddliak, daphne and violets harmonised with the colours of the rooms. Airs. Gower’s frjock was of black georgette.
