BRIGHT EVENING ARRANGED! BY BOATING CLUB ______ '* The usual Boating - Club spirit of cheerful sociability pervaded the clubhouse. Bayswater, last evening, •when the women's committee of the Takapuna Boating Club held one of its dances. A judicious mixture of oldtime and modern dances was appre- ' ciated by the patrons, the music be- j ing supplied by Mrs. W. Lawrence’s Bepasz Orchestra. The decorations of the supper-room were artistically carried out in a royal blue and gold colour scheme. Those constituting the committee were:—Mrs. Hoy Lidgard, wearing powder-blue and silver tissue and lace; Mrs. Beacon, who chose floral ivory lace over ivory satin beaute; Mrs. Inkster, in black satin and brocade: Mrs. IV. Cook, who wore beige silk and lace; Mrs. J. Tt. Williamson, in peacock blue lace and taffeta; Miss Pickworth, wearing panelled frock of cherry silk faille; Mrs. Norman Smith, who was in navy blue crepe de chine and lace; Mrs. Edwards, who chose nigger brown crepe de chine; and Mrs. C. P. Lock, who wore black lace over silk. Others present included: Mrs. E. Woodward, sen., who wore a naples blue crepe de chine frock; Miss O. Lougrhlin, in ivory georgette over pink taffeta; Mrs. E. Woodward, jun.. bois de rose crepe de chine; Miss Brown, who wore gold lace and apricot taffeta; Mrs. Claude Brinsden, in china blue ring velvet; Miss Joy Verran, wearing a frock of floral chiffon; Mrs. P. Smith, who wore black panne velvet; Mrs. W. Lawrence, in sea-green taffeta; Airs. Streeton, whose frock was of pastel pink crepe de chine; Airs. J. Webb, in pink floral crepe de chine; Airs. Afark, wearing flame satin and silver; Aliss N. Alalone, who chose reseda green crepe de chine and silver lace; Aliss D. Durey, who wore mauve crepe de chine and silver lace.
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY ANNUAL MEETING OF ONEHUNGA BRANCH “When the Onehunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary undertook to attend to the welfare of the inmates of the Epsom Infirmary, it accepted a big responsibility,” said Airs. Alfred Kidd, president of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, at the annual meeting of the Onehunga branch held yesterday afternoon in the Borough Council Chambers. “That responsibility,” continued Airs. Kidd, “has been faithfully and faultlessly discharged. From the day the branch was formed it has never looked back, and on behalf of the parent body I thank you one and all for the work ■you have accomplished.” The annual report recounted the activities of the various committees during the past year. These included a monthly concert given to the inmates of the infirmary, fortnightly visits, when sweets and literature were distributed; a special Christmas treat on December S; the donation of two spinal chairs, a wireless installation, and a clock for the Costley Ward. In addition to these benefits, the Onehunga Citizens’ Band had given its services. the Onehunga Library Committee had donated a large supply of books, and residents had provided motor trips for the inmates during the summer months. Appreciation was expressed at the generosity of Messrs. Buchanans, Ltd., Amburys, Ltd.. Browne Bros. and Geddes, Alennies, Ltd., and AlcKeish and Company in supplying goods. The balance sheet showed the receipts were £66 8s lfld, and the expenditux*e £25 14s 3d, leaving a credit balance, including last year’s surplus, of £ll6 4s 7d. There are 49 active and ten honorary members in the branch, who are divided into five committees. It was decided to install wireless sets in two additional shelters in the infirmary grounds, and to furnish the old men's cottage with a number of easy chairs.
