Masonic Dance

GREENERY AND BLUE AND [ GOLD STREAMERS MAKE ! EFFECTIVE DECORATIONS ! _l PIO PIO FUNCTION The Masonic fraternity at Pio Pio held a most enjoyable dance on Friday evening, when there was a large attendance, including many visitors from neighbouring townships. r JMIE centre decoration of the hall j consisted of a large Masonic star ; in blue and gold, and looked very effective. The hall was pleasantly decorated with greenery and blue and gold coloured streamers. Music, which was supplied by the Syncopated Five, met with enthusiastic approval from the dancers. During the evening vocal items were given by Messrs. Gibb, Saunders and Brown, and Mr. W. Swift gave a whistling solo, the accompanists being Miss R. Hogan and Mr. P. Swift. Among the guests were: Mrs. G. Fellingham, in saxe blue crepe de chine; Mrs. J. Trust, who wore blue charmeuse; Mrs. Swift, who chose blue crepe de chine and lace; Miss E. McKenzie, mauve beaded georgette; Mrs. Walker, wearing black georgette; Miss Jean Boddy, in black silk lace with georgette; Miss Mason, who wore lemon beaded georgette. CAMEO PINK CHARMUESE Mrs. T. Mortensen, in a frock of pink charmeuse: Miss Ida McKenzie; wearing pink crepe de chine; Mrs. Agar, in black georgette and lace; Miss Hazel Fellingham, who chose tomato georgette; Mrs. McDonald, in black georgette; Mrs. Mason, who wore pale blue velvet; Mrs. Symonds, who had on red satin; Mrs. Harvey, in black georgette and sequin trimmings. Mrs. Thompson, who chose blue crepe de chine; Miss Violet Webb, wearing pink chiffon velvet; 'Mrs. Webster, in black charmeuse and beaded georgette; Mrs. Terry, in a gown of french blue satin; Mrs. McLeod, who chose pink crepe de chine; Miss Jean Webster, wearing celanese; Miss Ina Webster, in leaf green crepe de chine; Mrs. Laurenti, who wore black beaded georgette. Mrs. F. Coates, who wore black charmeuso and lace; Mrs. Mortensen, sen., wearing black satin; Mrs. Hedley, in black georgette; Mrs. Andrews, who chose black satin: Mrs. Martin, who had on lace over taffeta; Mrs. Gibb, wearing white crepe de chine; Mrs. Pettigrew, in cigar brown crepe de chine; Mrs. Dunkley, who wore a lace frock; Miss Laurenti, in cedar brown ring velvet.

“HARD-UP” DANCE ORGANISED BY MAYORESS OF TE AWAMUTU FOR ’QUAKE RELIEF In order to augment the funds for earthquake relief, a “hard-up” dance was promoted by the Mayoress of Te Awamutu, Mrs. C. G. Downes, recently. Some of the costumes worn were decidedly novel, including dresses of sugar bags, oatmeal bags, old-time costumes, and patchwork creations. The men were representative of swaggers and dead-beats. Patterson’s orchestra provided the music, Mr. E. Holmes assisting with extras. Mr. D. Bockett acted as M.C. Prize awards were as follow; —Best woman’s costume, Mrs. J. S. Ashmore; best man’s, Mr. Douglas Storey; consolation prizes, Madame Meurant, Mrs. K. Jones, Mrs. Oliphant, and Messrs. J. Oliphant and S. A. Empson. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY TEA AND DANCE FOR MISS BETTS A dainty tea was given by Mrs.. Betts, Onehunga, on Saturday, to celebrate the coming-of-age of her daughter, Marrin. The party was held at another daughter’s home, Mrs. J. Donnelly, Great South Road, the dining-room being decorated with streamers and blooms, and the tables fragrant with irises and ferns. Mr. Joe Williamson made a happy little speech and presented Miss Betts * with a gold key. The party was followed in the evening with dancing, music and games, an a very enjoyable time was spent. The hostess received her guests wearing a frock of black silk and cream lace. Among those present were: Miss Mkrrin Betts, who wore a frock of pink shot taffeta, and cream shawl; Mrs. J. Donnelly, in opalescent tineline and cream shawl; Mrs. Joe Williams, who had on black satin with red posy and cream shawl; Mrs. E. Daniels, gowned in black satin and pink georgette. with black shawl; Mrs. in green satin; Mrs. A. Williamson, wearing a mist rose georgette frock and mauve shawl; Mrs. Pipei\ in navy blue crepe de chine; Mrs. J. Williamson, who had on a blue floral crepe de chine frock and black shawl; Mrs. Murdoch, wearing black crepe de chine; Mrs. Armstrong, in brown marocain and cream lace; Mrs. A. Williamson, senr., gowned in black marocain with black and white coat; Mrs. Clark, in maroon crepe do chine; Mrs. Hills, wearing cream and silver georgette; Mrs. B. Burridge, in lido crepe de chine; Miss Wilson, whose frock was cherry red crepe de chine; Miss Sparrow, wearing black satin frock and pink shoulder posy: Miss O. Holmes, in apricot crepe de chine.

SILVER WEDDING HAPPY CELEBRATION AT NORTHCOTE A most enjoyable surprise party was given to Mr. and Mrs. J. Turner on the occasion of their silver wedding at their residence. Beach Road, Xortlicote, on Saturday evening, by members of the Korthcote Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Turner were the recipients of bouquets and many presents. Games were played,- and Airs. Allely sang several solos. After supper had been enjoyed, a happy evening was brought to a close by the singing of “The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden.” PRESENTATION MADE Members of the Pacific Club made a presentation yesterday afternoon to Miss Mavis Naim, who is to be married shortly to M.r. J. Cooper. Miss Nairn has been in the service of the club for five years. On behalf of the club, the vice-president presented a silver tea service and a cake stand. Mr. W. Nairn, uncle of the recipient, replied.
