Maori Wedding of Wide Interest

Po ih ip i—Paam u Amid beautiful decorations, with a Maori choir singing the hymns in tuneful cadences, two widelyknown native families of aristocratic blood were united at Piriaka, King Country, the bride being i Hine Paamu, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Paamu, of Kakatahi. j Wanganui, and the bridegroom Te Uhi Tiraha Poihipi, second son of j the late Mr. and Mrs. Tiraha Poi- ! hipi, of Taumarunui. The ceremony took place at the residence of Air. and Mrs. Tunga Taitua, and was performed by the Rev. J. E. Ward, of Taumarunui. The bride wore a lovely gown of embossed satin with lace panelling, tier shower bouquet of white and pink llowers added a charming touch of colour. Miss Louie Turoa was the bridesmaid, and the best man was Air. T. Tanoa. The bride’s father gave her away, and Air. Kopa Brown played the Wedding March. A reception was held after the ceremony, when about 150 guests were entertained. Air. Tunga Taitua, in accordance with the custom of his race, spoke words of wisdom to the newly - wedded couple. The event created a great deal, of interest for the European population.

“POPULAR GIRL” COMPETITION FOR ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH FUNDS BRIDGE PARTY AT MOULIN ROUGE Tho “Popular Girl” competition is meeting with generous support as a means of increasing the St. Alichael Church funds, with the object of erecting a suitable edifice, and various forms of entertainment are being mapped out during the campaign. A bridge party at the Aloulin Rouge, Remuera, attracted a large number of players last evening, yie lounge making a very comfortable card room. The first prize winners were Miss Rita AlcGruer and Mr. Alitchell, and second prizes were secured by Airs. Stubbs and Air. O. Aliller. The gifts were donated by Aliss C. Burke and Aliss L. Simms. Tho organising committee were ATrs. D. McDonald, Aliss Elva McDonald, Airs. T. Nevin, Mrs. A. Black, Airs. Gutheridge, Aliss C. Burke. Aliss Jenkinson, Aliss Simms, Aliss AI. Tole and Aliss AL Cotter. Those present included Mrs. Hugh Wright, Airs. F. Stevens, Airs. Norton, Airs. Wiseman, Airs. W. Smith, Airs. Somerville, Mrs. James, Airs. Hartman, Airs. Brady, Airs. SOCIAL EVENING PAPATOETOE ANGLICANS RAISE FUNDS FOR GUILD STALL A delightful social evening was held at the residence of Air. and ATrs. J. Trimble, Great South Road, Papatoetoe, on Saturday. The proceeds are to be devoted to the St. George’s Girl Guides’ stall at' the forthcoming Winter Show. Tho evening was spent in games, dancing, competitions and musical items. The latter were contributed by Alisses Valda Burrill, Ngaire Burrill, Aluriel Morey, songs; Alisses Audrey Fitness, Ivy Smytheman and Gwelda Fitness, pianoforte solos. Air. H. Matthews vas master of ceremonies. Competitions were won by Alisses Ivy Smytheman and Yoland© Willerton. Dane© competitions weep won by Aliss Audrey Fitness and Mr. Eric Cutforth, spot waltz; Aliss Gwen Johnson and Air. W. Bayliss, Alonte Carlo competition; surprise packet, Miss Lang. On behalf of the Girls’ Guild, Air. Trimble thanked those who attended to help augment the funds of the guild stall, and Mr. Alatthews paid a special tribute of appreciation to Air. and Airs. Trimble for placing their home at the guild’s disposal for the function. Airs. Trimble welcomed the guests wearing a frock of black and white lace. Among those present were:—Airs. AI. Richards, who wore a frock of navy silk rep; Aliss Lang, in grey and silver crepe de chine, with oriental embroideries; Aliss Gladys Grinter, in cyclamen shaded crepe de chine, relieved with silver; Aliss E. Richards, who wore apple green charmeuse, prettily embroidered. WILD ROSE CREPE FAILLE Aliss Gwen Docherty, frocked in wild rose crepe faille, with satin trimmings; Aliss Dulcie Grinter, in marv blue crepe de chine, wop under silver lace, with posy trimmings. Aliss Ada Bade,-frocked in blush rose crepe satin, with lace; Miss T. Alorey, wearing a dainty frock of ivory crepe de chine, with relief of pale shades; Aliss N. Snelling, who had on rose du barri taffeta, with silver relief; Aliss Gwenda Fitness, in forget-me-not blue crepe alonza, with spray of roses worn at waist. Aliss Rona Lipscornbe, in a frock of wistaria ninon, with trimmings of lace; Aliss S. Snelling, whose frock was of sunset taffeta, with trimmings of deeper shades; Aliss E. Trimble, in a dainty frock of dawn tinted georgette; Airs. Jenkins, wearing a smart frock of silk bengaline; Aliss Ivy Smytheman, frocked in sunset crepe satin, with posy trimmings; Aliss Audrey Fitness, wearing mary blue mariette, with tiered skirt of blue georgette. Aliss E. Alorey, who wore orchii pink charmeuse, with side drapings finished with deep band of lace; Aliss Valda Burrill, in . ashes of roses crepe de chin**, with side panels of georgette; Aliss AT. Trimble, who wore a dainty frock of swiss embroidered voile; Aliss Owen Johnson, frocked in flesh pink frilled taffeta; Aliss Dorothy Butler, in sea foam georgette, and shawl to match; Aliss Flossie Trimble, wearing a frock of brlcque red crepe alonza, with relief of gold; Aliss Iris Barker, in cornflower blue ninon, with side draping falling to the hem.

OLD-TIME DANCE BRIGHT FUNCTION AT OTAHUHU More than 70 couples attended an old-time dance held in the Public Hall, Otahuhu, on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by Messrs. J. Douglas and Dennison. Mr. K. Brennan fulfilled the duties o£ M.C. During the evening, competition dances were held. The prizewinners were: —Mr. W. Hope and Miss A. McInncs, Mont© Carlo waltz; Mr. and Mrs. G. Handford. first, and' Miss P. Sanderson and Miss M. Kemp, second, in the lucky waltz competition.
