NGARUAWAHIA LODGE HOLDS ANNUAL FUNCTION IN TOWN HALL The members of the Royal Xgaruawaliia Lodge of the AI.U., 1.0.0. F., had made the Town Hall a very delightful setting: for their annual ball last week. Good music was played by Ueldretti’s Orchestra from Hamilton. The hostesses were Mrs. E. J. Rodgers, who was wearing black lace over satin, and Mrs. H. Rodgers, in a frock of black crepe de chine and diamente. Among those present were: Mrs. Sampson, in black lace over jade green crepe de chine, and shawl in tin same shades; Mrs. Blewden, who wore amethyst beaded georgette; Mrs. AV. Paterson, wearing a frock of black lace and white satin; Airs. Sutherland, wearing a gold tissue and scarlet frock; Mrs. Carton, Huntly, in black crepe de chine; Mrs. Holt, Huntly, in black shot taffeta. Airs. Keener, who chose geranium red georgette; Airs. Garry, in buttercup chiffon velvet; Airs. Pharo, in cameo pink crepe de chine, with shawl to tone; Airs. Souter, who chose flowered pink chiffon; Aliss O’Sullivan, in cornflower blue crepe de chine; Aliss L. Alorris, who wore shell-pink figured taffeta. Aliss Froude, wearing apricot taffeta; Aliss Hall, Horotiu, in ivory georgette and silver lace; Aliss Goodwin, in alice blue satin and silver; Aliss B. Rayner, who chose nile green taffeta; Aliss AI. Collins, Huntly, who had on corn-shaded tulle and crepe de chine; Aliss Rayner, in a ffock of delphinium blue and biscuit crepe de chine. COMMUNITY SUNSHINE MONTHLY MEETING ADDRESS BY SISTER ESTHER The usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary was held in the club rooms, Nelson Street, and was preceded by a short business meeting. The stall at the Winter Show, under the control of Airs. Pratt, secretary, had been a great success, and thanks were expressed to all who had so ably helped. Jumble sales and bridge proceeds had considerably augmented the funds so urgently needed. The president, Airs. Ferner, thanked the ladies for their splendid, whole-hearted work. Committees were formed to be responsible for the various activities of the Community Club. The librarian. Airs. Fletcher, reported that 60 books had been added to the children’s library. It was also reported that Mr. John Court liad generously donated fine equipment for the gymnasium. The president, in introducing the speaker, Sister Esther, said that it was a privilege and would prove instructive to members to hear from so ardent and devoted a social worker something of the problems of the district. Sister Esther was listened to with attention as she outlined the many sad cases she met and the sometimes tragic conditions under which so many of our younk folk lived. It was realised what splendid and devoted work Sister Esther was doing, and her address was much appreciated. Among those present were Alesdames Nielson, Cooper, Holloway, Alillikin, Jackson, Alfred Eady, Johnstone, Blomfield, Taylor, Kerr, Ingram, Aliller, Pratt, Williamson, Winks, O’Brien, Frater and Hr. Staley.

NORTH SHORE TRANSPORT EMPLOYEE’S ANNUAL BALL The second annual ball of the North Shore Transport Company’s employees will be held on Ye Olde Pirate Shippe, Milford, tomorrow evening. Dancing will commence at 8 p.m. and will continue till 2 a.m. Special buses will leave the Ferry Buildings, Auckland, at 7.30 p.m and 8.10 pan. for Milford, and on the return trip will leave the Pirate Shippe to catch the 1 a.m. boat from Devonport to Auckland. Mr. Al. Thompson’s orchestra of nine instruments will dispense the music and a most enjoyable evening is expected. A first-class supper will be served. The proceeds will be devoted to the employees’ social and benevolent funds.
