Annual Meeting of Y.W.C.A. Best Ever GENERAL-SECRETARY’S REPORT “The largest and most enthusiastic in the movement’s history.” That must have been the consensus of opinion of the 43rd annual meeting of the Auckland Young Women’s Christian Association, held in the Y.W.C.A. Hall, Queen Street, last evening. The general secretary, Miss Jean Begg, and the treasurer, Mrs. Rudd, presented the annual report and financial statement respectively, extracts from which appeared in last evening’s Sun. Miss Begg gave some very illuminating information when she said that theue were altogether 2,550 members in some class, or the organisation as a whole. There were 300 members in the senior department, 275 in the girls’ department, and 700 in the gymnastic and other* departments, as well as 980 women members. Miss Begg said that it was one of the proudest moments of her life to bo able to record a growing spirit of self-reliance and initiative on the part of the girls. The various departments of the association were run by councils of girls who decided the policies. Never before in her life had she struck such^initiative. jdis Grace the Archbishop of New Zealand, the Most Rev. A. W. Averill, D.D., was a guest, and delivered a forceful address. FRIENDSHIP OF Y.W.C.A. Tributes were paid to the work of both the permanent and voluntary staffs and to the general secretary, Miss Jean Begg, and the president, Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, in particular. Physical culture items were given by the senior gymnasium girls and several songs were sung by the girl citizens. One of the senior girls. Miss Claudia Macfavlane, gave a very able address on “What the Y.W.C.A. Means to the Girls of Auckland,” in which she stressed the feeling of friendship. Every girl had an opportunity of gaining confidence in herself, and her ambitions became possibilities. Miss Macfarlane touched also on the homely feeling and the personal interest of the general secretaries in the welfare of each individual member. The election of members to the board of directors was as follow’s: Mrs. Todd-Smith, Mrs. O’Halloran, Mrs. N. S. Benfell, Mrs. D. G. Cole, Miss E. Goodfellow*. Mrs. R. A. Kenner, Miss Quayle, Mrs. 11. B. Webster. The president, Mrs. Bradstreet, was re-elected.
