EFFECT OF STRIKE

SHIPPING TONNAGE SHOWS DECREASE AUSTRALIAN STATISTICS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.15 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Returns by the South Head signal master show that during the year ended June 30, 7,073 vessels, with an aggregate tonnage of 8,942,226, entered Port Jackson. Compared with figures for the previous year, there were 824 fewer vessels and smaller tonnage of 291,063. The decrease was apparently due to the timber strike and depressed state of the coal industry.
