Amateur Operatic Society Holds Monthly Social

Royal blue and gold strear,* 'rs decorated the Amateur Operatic Society's hall in Grafton Road last evening, when the society held its monthly social and dance. Miss Jean Macindoe’s orchestra provided a bright programme- of dance numbers, and a very jolly evening was spent by the large number present. During the evening items w*ere contributed by Miss Inez Abdullah and Mr. E. Snell, songs; Miss Abdullah.. Miss Freda Crosher and Miss Thelma St. Clair Whyte, dance items; and Miss Audrey Perry, a. monologue. Under the baton of Mrs. P. A. Richards the society’s orchestra played some excellent selections. AMONG THOSE PRESENT Mrs. Kilner yore gold lace over pink georgette. Mrs. Osborne was in cameo pink chiffon with a flounced skirt. Mrs. Richards chose a black georgette gown. Mrs. Vivian Hunt’s gown was of black taffeta. Mrs. Cleland -was in a frilled frock -of gold net. Mrs. C. Tucker wore ivory georgette. Mrs. E. Snell was wearing rose flowered georgette. Miss Peggy Cutting's frock was of shrimp pink chenille embossed georgette. Miss Dorothy Knox chose lupin-blue georgette and lace. Miss Freda Gaudin wore her pretty frock of shell pink georgette. Miss Clarice Lawry was in ivory chiffon. Miss Xance St. Clair Whyte was irr lilac frilled taffeta. Miss Thelma St. Clair Whyte had chosen primrose taffeta and lavender tulle. DANCE AND CARD EVENING An enjoyable evening was spent a.t St. George’s Hall, Ranfurly Road, Epsom, on Tuesday, when Mrs. Speight held a dance and card evening for her pupils and friends. The hall was tastefully decorated with pink and blue streamers. Mrs. Speight received her guests in ivory georgette trimmed with silver lace. VICTORIA LEAGUE

GIRLS’ COMMITTEE MEETS A meeting .of the Victoria League Girls* Committee was held in the League rooms on Tuesday evening. Mrs. L. S. Rickerby presided over 60 members. From the proceeds of a dance recently held, a donation was made of £l2 to the Rev. Jasper Calder’s Better Times Bazaar. It was decided to hold a flag bridge early in August to gather in funds for buying dolls for Christmas gifts for children in the backblocks. Mrs. Rickerby congratulated the girls upon' the splendid community work they were doing. The conveners of the different circles read their monthly reports. The Children’s Hospital was visited weekly, 14 girls visiting for the month. Ten members played bridge at the Evelyn Firth Home. Sixty garments had been sent to Sister Pat for distribution among the poor and needy. Twenty-one velvet animals had been made by the Toy Circle. The sweet box circle had made a large number of boxes. The entertainment circle had been practising every week under the kindly tuition of Mrs. Wyatt, and has arranged a concert for the Seamen's Mission for August 1 in the Navy League rooms. The following members acted as i hostesses for the meeting:—Misses I Hewitt, Fair, Gulliver. McLaehlin i Thomson, Knott and Jourdain.
