Tennis Club Holds Bright Annual Dance

Function at Howick There was a large attendance of members of the Howick Tennis i Club and their friends at the club’s annual dance held in the Howick Public Hall on Tuesday evening. An enjoyable programme of da,nce , numbers was supplied by Meredith’s Orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs.. ! Armitage and Miss Strong. The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried out by Messrs. JD. Newton and E.. Andrew. Streamers of blue and white effectively decorated the supper room. MANY USEFUL GIFTS A jolly surprise party was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. French, Herne Bay, last evening, for Miss Aruba French, who is shortly to be married. AUCKLAND RUGBY REFEREES With concert items and dancing, the second social held by the Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association in Lewis Eady’s Hall was carried out most enjoy ably. Contributing to the programme were Miss Hopewell, Miss M. Cofield. Messrs. Vail© and Sutherland, while Miss Mortensen's Orchestra provided the dance music. “BRING AND BUY” AFTERNOON

PAPATOETOE ANGLICANS A successful bring and buy afternoon, organised by Mesdames W. Boyce and Richards, was held in the St. George s Kindergarten Hall, Fapatoetoe, on Tuesday. There was a good attendance and the funds are to be devoted to the afternoon tea stall at the forthcoming autumn show, to be held a«. the end of August. A stall was erected in the hall ana proved a good source of income to the funds. # . A very enjoyable programme oi musical items was contributed by the following:—Aliss Beth Wyman, elocutionary item; Airs. W. W. Massey, vocal solos; the girls of the Pa pa toetoe Orphans’ Home gave a numooi of very enjoyable glees and recitations. Airs. Coglan acted as accompanist and Airs. W. J. Nicholson presided over tne gathering.
