AVIATION PROGRESS
IMPROVEMENTS FOR CLUB’S AIRDROME OBJECTS OF ART UNION \Vith establishment and equipment of an airdrome for the Auckland Aero Club, a, definite advance will be made in New Zealand civil aviation. So far there has not been much interchange of air visits between centres because of the absence of satisfactory landing; facilities, but a good 'drome will end this major difficulty. Aucklanders are. developing an “air sense.” and there is no dearth of candidates for pilots' certificates, but again this work is being hampered by lack of machines and general flying facilities. ' That the Government is appreciative of the desirability of removing these difliculties is shown by the enthusiastic willingness with which it has granted permission for the art union being held under the auspices of the Auckland Aero Club. With the funds raised through this enterprise, it is hoped. that many dis—abilities on civil aviation will be removed. The money will be spent on the purchase and equipment of a permanent airdrome. The interest of private people in aviation is proved by the demands made on the Auckland Aero Club planes during week-ends. The Moth owned by the Hamilton Company has carried 1,300 ' passengers in three months. The demand is present, but the barrier to progress is the present lack of facilities, and the art union will be the means of overcoming this final barrier to progress.
