ATLANTIC CHALLENGER

BREMEN SAILS ON MAIDEN VOYAGE

GREAT GERMAN LINER (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Wednesday. The North German Lloyd Company’s new liner Bremen has started from Bremerhaven on her maiden voyage across the Atlantic. She has 1,800 passengers. The directors of the company say there is no intention of attacking the Mauretania’s record on the first voyage of the Bremen.

The giant Cunarder Mauretania is a ship of 30,696 tons, while the Brement is 46,000 tons. The Mauretania on July 19, 1928, completed the trip from Cherbourg to New York in 4 days 23 hours 3 'St miuutes. The vessel also holds the world's record for the double journey, Plymouth to New York. On July 6, 1928, she completed the return trip in 121 days. The time usually taken is 17 or 18 days. The Mauretania’s best voyage from Queenstawn to New’ York was when she crossed in 4 days 10 hours 41 minutes. The Bremen, which is a sister-ship of the Europa (recently damaged by fire), is expected to have a speed of 26i knots.
