HERE AND THERE

Mr. A. R. T. Jamieson, of Northcote, has sold his four-ton auxiliary yacht Eunice to M.r. Rogers, late owner of the Forest Gold. The new owner is to be congratulated on having acquired what is probably the finest boat of its type on the harbour. Mr. F. Lidgard has made an early start on altering his 22ft mullet-boat Marie in readiness for next season’s racing. The boat has been stripped for lightening purposes. Her old mast has been converted bo a boom, and it is rumoured that Marie is to have a Marconi rig in the future. Mr. Dick Lang has sold his sixcylinder launch to Mr. Harry Thode, of Herne Bay. * * • Mr. O. Goodwin, owner of the 22footer Marere, has made a somewhat earlier start on the overhaul of his craft than is his usual practice. He has hauled it out at Richmond, and has got well ahead with burning off. * * * The schooner-yacht Valkyrie, which has lately been very much in the news, seems, from private advice received from Suva, to have had an experience which fortunately falls to few ocean voyagers. It is bad enough being hove-to for a few hours, even in a liner, but Captain Gilling writes that he hove-to for eight days on end, and later for three days. In between he got in the doldrums, and altogether seems to have had a merry time. The captain wrote from Suva on July 4, stating that he was taking on board several Americans, and that he was next bound fo.r Apia, Samoa, which he hoped to make five weeks from then. * * * Tho Takapuna Boating Club has had hard luck with its Winter Show enterprise, and certain circumstances have militated against big profits on this occasion. The club turned out well in support of its scheme, and each night there were plenty of helpers. It will not be known until Thursday evening what has been the margin of profit. The Point Chevalier Sailing Club draws attention to its series of socials and dances to be held every Saturday evening from now on in the clubhouse, Joan Street, Point Chevalier. The functions are organised by a keen committee, headed by Miss T. Stenbeck, the popular young yachtswoman, who has the interests of the club very much at heart. Tho Akarana Yacht Club’s Saturday evening dances continue to be popular, and the club is deriving a steady revenue from them. Last week was a busy one in the social sphere of yachting. On the Tuesday, the Victoria Cruising Club held a very successful dance in conjunction with its prize night. The following evening the Akarana Yacht Club earned £7 for the Mayor’s earthquake relief fund by a dance in the clubhouse. Last Saturday the Point Chevalier Sailing Club was honoured in having Mr. J. S. Fletcher, M.P., to present its prizes. There was a very largo attendance, and an enjoyable night’s dancing was held.
