FRUITGROWERS’ NEEDS
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS GRIEVANCES OUTLINED Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. A deputation from the annual conference of the Fruitgrowers’ Association waited on the Ministers of Agriculture, Education and Customs today, and asked for general support by the Government for fruitgrowers of the Dominion. In reference to the importation of jam and dried fruits into the Dominion from countries where co.loured labour is used, the Hon. U. Atmore stated that the Government recognised the condition as unfair. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, said the proper move in regard to the provinces being enabled to vote themselves in to the export control, should come from the provinces concerned. He said he had received protests signed by fruitgrowers against legislation forcing control measures on them. In answer to a request that an investigation should be held into the importation of artificial extracts and colouring in essences, cordials and pulps, the Minister promised to refer the question to the Health Department.
