POTATOES THAT ARE “DIFFERENT”
AN APPETISING DISH “Scalloped” potatoes make a delicious change, and are perfectly simple to prepare. Cut uncooked peeled potatoes into thin slices, and put them in layers in a buttered dish. Sprinkle a little salt and flour and some pieces of butter on each layer, and fill the dish thus. Pour milk over —nearly enough to cover. Now cover up the dish, and set in the oven to bake. When nearly done, uncover and allow the potatoes to brown. If desired a little grated cheese may be added. FOR DARK PAINTWORK To clean and preserve dark paintwork, shake together in a botle equal quantities of turpentine, vinegar, linseed oil and methylated spirit. Apply with a soft rag, discarding each piece as it becomes dirty. After the whole surface has been cleansed, take a soft, clean cloth and polish lightly. This is not a mixture for use on white paint, as it tends to turn it yellow; but it is ideal for all dark woods.
