FANCY DRESS BALL

Function for Papatoetoe Children CANOPY OF STREAMERS Decorated with a canopy of multicoloured streamers, from which hung hundreds of gaily coloured balloons, the Papatoetoe Town Hall made a picturesque setting on Friday evening for the throng of young pepole who attended the children's annual fancy dress ball held by the Papatoetoe Fire Brigade. Brightly coloured Japanese umbrellas enveloped the lights, and pennants of contrasting colours decked the walls. A pleasing programme of dance numbers was played by the Frolic Ori chestra, under the leadership of Airs. I S. Brooke.

The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried out by Superintendent Bradley, Deputy-Superintendent Pennell and Fireman S. Brooke. The frocks were judged by Alesdames 11. Grierson, W. W. Alassey, J. Gillies, P. H. Smith and R. Corbett, and their awards were as follow:

Best girl’s fancy dress, under four years, Shii'ley Alorgan as Red Riding Hood: best boy’s fancy dress, under four years, Dayid Brooke as bell boy; most original girl’s dress, under four years, Gloria Xeil as Grandma; most original boy’s dress, under four years, Clifford Richards as Sylvia Starch. Best girl’s fancy dress, four to ten years, Diana Baildon as Bubbles; best boy’s fancy dress, four to ten years, Ray Maguire as Robin Hood; most original girl’s dress, four to ten years, Marjorie Mcßeth as a dishcloth: most original boy’s dress, four to ten years, Sidney Tyo as a lost spirit. Best girl’s fancy dress, 10 to 14 years, Zoc Richards as a canary; best boy’s fancy dress, 10 to 14 years, Stanley Kean as a Chinaman; most original girl's dress. 10 to 14, Margaret Bradley as Brown Bros, and Geddes chocolates; most original boy’s dress, 10 to 14, Peter Brooke as a sandwich man.

Special prize, girl over eight years, Doris Dakens as a grasshopper; special prize, boy, over eight years, Fred Lowry as a Maori; special prize for tiny tots, lan Massey as Felix the cat. An enjoyable programme of musical items was contributed by a number of young folk.
