MORTIMER SINGER DEAD

ELDEST SON OF INVENTOR OF SEWING-MACHINE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The death has occurred of Sir Mortimer Singer, the eldest son of Isaac. Merritt Singer, the inventor of the Singer sewing-machine. Sir Mortimer, who was born at Yonkers, in the United States, in 1863, became a naturalised British subject in 1900. He was educated at Cambridge. He had been a pioneer in cycling, motoring and flying—his English flying certificate was No. 8. Also he was a breeder and racer of thoroughbred horses. Created a Knight of the British Empire in. 1920, he was High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1921.
