BRIGHT FARE DEVONPORT ENTERTAINS Bright entertainment was presented by the Ngataringa Comedy Players from Stanley Bay in the Narrow Keck hall on Saturday evening. The performance was largely attended in spite of heavy rain, and as a result that Vauxhall School funds are expected to be substantially augmented. The presentation of the four one-act comedies staged was capably directed bj’ Captain Redmond. In a breach of promise action sketch “£125 and costs,” Aliss R. Ross vigorously characterised the mother, and Aliss H. Lewin made a very effective “disappointed bride.” Air. W. Lund filled the role of “heartbreaker” capably. Well sustained characterisation was giVen by Aliss Una Dawson and Air. C. Dawson in the sketch, “A Surprise,” depicting the meeting of two - authors searching for local colour on the Thames embankment. In "Oh, Timothy!” Councillor Thomson (Captain Redmond) enlarged on the evils of Sunday bathing and explained his plan for having all bathers costumed from neck to within four inches of the ankles. His daughter’s fiance, Tim Lord (Mr. S. Bates) was almost discovered in the act of painting from a model (Aliss Ilewa Ross) and liis efforts to spirit her away when his sweetheart (Aliss K. Johnson) and her Sabbitarian father called unexpectedly, provided many humorous moments. The fourth sketch was “Exposed,” in which a butler, found secreting his mater’s cigars, turned the tables on both master and mistress by deftly intimating what he had seen with his own eyes. The parts were taken by Aliss J. Daniel, Air. F. Stevenson and Air. S. Bates. Songs and a monologue were contributed by Air. Williams. Airs. F. Bennett played the accompaniments.
