Charming Setting For Athenian Revel NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT The Auckland Athenian Club, which has justly become noted for its highly successful gatherings, held another of its fortnightly meetings at the Amateur Operatic Hall on Saturday night last. Mr. Percy Dawes, who proved an excellent host, endeavoured to create a real Hawaiian atmosphere. The stage presented a novel island scene, set with picturesque blooms, tall trees and palms, a radiant moon rising over tlie quiet hills in the background. An excellent programme had been arranged by Mr. Dawes, and included items by Miss Be.rvl Smith, Mr. Arthur Hawkins, Mr. Jef. College, Mr. Eric Bell, and selections by Mr. Barry Ingall's string band. During the evening Miss Lilliokalani gave an appropriate hula dance, in. costume, which was much appreciated. Tlie distribution of brightly coloured leis, comedy hats, and umbrellas to the ladies, and false noses, top hats, bow ties, and Island skirts to the menfolk, caused much merriment. In the midst of the revel, the president, Mr. Wilfred Wright, reminded the members that, -while they were enjoying themselves thus, there were many suffering hardships as a result of the recent earthquake disaster. A collection was then taken up, the result of the appeal amounting to £l2 Os Gd. The singing of the National Anthem concluded one of the jolliest nights of the season.
