AWARDS FOR BRAVERY

HUMANE SOCIETY MEDALS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. At a meeting of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand, the following awards for bravery were made: William Gell, aged 23, Te Araroa. — Silver medal for attempting to rescue a man from drowning in shark-infested water at Tupaki Rock, January 27, 1929. Mr. Gell was brought ashore exhausted by Charles Pupa, aged 35. who was awarded a silver medal. Mrs. Walter Scott, aged 31, Karangarua, South Westland, was awarded a certificate for rescuing a young woman from drowning on December 17, 1928. Allan William Henderson, aged 161, and Xoel Francis James Gardiner, aged 16, New Plymouth, were awarded silver medals for rescuing a boy from drowning on March 3, 1929.
