LARGE INCREASE IN ENTRIES Tb 3 full figures connected with the entries lodged for classic events to be run at the Auckland Racing: Club’s meeting are now available. From the comparative statement appended, It will be seen that there is an al-round substantial increase this year in the number of entries: 1928. 1929. Welcome Stakes 103 112 G.N. Foal Stakes 137 164 Royal Stakes 167 188 G.N. Champagne Stakes 157 182 G.N. Guineas 165 193 G.N. Derby 181 226 G.N. Oaks .. .. 80 107 G.N. St. Leger 155 199 1.145 1,371 The total increase in the nominations i* no less than 226, representing 20 per cent.—a wonderful testimonial to the popularity of the Auckland Racing Club and its classics. The first of the classics closed last week to come up for decision is the Welcome Stakes, to be run at Kllerslie next October. This is for two-year-olds (present yearlings). On the same day the Great Northern Guineas (present two-year-olds> will be run.
