PLEA FOR SPAIN

LATIN AMERICAN VIEW LETTER THROUGH ROTARY Greater interest in Spanish affairs is urged by the Bilbao (South America) Rotary Club in a circular letter. One of these has come to the Auckland Rotary Club. It points to the importance of the exhibitions at Barcelona and Seville, and protests against a “campaign of libelling which diminishes Spain’s prestige before foreign countries.” The Bilbao Rotarians would like to see work of reparation and justice. They say that Spain, a cradle of nations, luminary of civilisation through the centuries, is a constant victim of a campaign of libelling. Any intent to dwindle Spain’s prestige by drawing between Spain and the world a curtain of calumny and falsehood earned the execration of every well-bred man. A plea is made to the influence of Rotary.
