] FUNCTION AT PAPATOETOE ATTENDED BY BRILLIANT SUCCESS.

i MANY CHARMING GOWNS A canopy of multi-coloured streamers, twining from a centrepiece of tennis rackets, made effective decoration for the annual ball and prize night of the Papatoetoe Tennis Club, held in the Papatoetoe Town Hall last evening. A novel feature of the decoratiye scheme was a gaily coloured paper tennis net, suspended over the floor of the hall. Tennis balls, coloured in bright shades, hung round the walls. Messrs. E. H. Burnside and J. Nicholson fulfilled the duties of masters of ceremonies. Bendall’s Orchestra provided a very enjoyable programme of dance music. Before asking Mrs. Waters to present the trophies won by the members in the various club competitions, Mr. F. M. Waters, president of the club, accorded a hearty welcome to the large gathering of visitors. The prizewinners were:—Women’s championship. Miss D. Bryant; women’s junior championship, Miss Mona Waters; Smith cup, handicap singles, Miss M. Cutforth; president’s trophy. Handicap singles, Miss D. Waters; Mrs. Bryant’s trophy. Miss D. Waters; women’s handicap doubles, Mrs. It. G. Boss and Miss E. O’Loughlen; men’s championship, Mr. H. Elder; men’s junior championship, Mr. W'. McFarland; De Pas cup, handicap singles, Mr. W. McFarland; combined doubles championship, Miss D. Bryant and Mr. H. Elder; handicap combined doubles, Miss J. Knight and Mr. J. Nicholson. Among those present were: Mrs. F. M. Waters, wearing a gown of black beaded crepe de chine, finished at the waist with a posy of ruby velvet. Mrs. It. G. Ross, whose pretty frock was or peach blossom ninon, handsomely beaded in ivory and silver bugle beads. Mrs. 11. Grierson, who was in a gown of black ninon, prettily appiiqued in vivid shades, and finished with a deep ruched hem. Mrs. F. Burnside, wearing absinthe green embossed georgette, with deep side drapings. Mrs. 11. C. Ernest, who had chosen black chenille embossed georgette, with circular georgette inset godets. Mrs. Sanderson, in a dainty frock of pale sunset charmeuse, with skirt falling in handkerchief points. Mrs. J. George, Aveai'ing jade green georgette, over a foundation of silver. SHELL PINK AND GOLD Mrs. W. Young, who was wearing a charming frock of shell pink net, finished with insets of gold lace. Mrs. Chris. Allen, who had chosen a handsome gown of black adn silver beaded georgette. Mrs. S. Brooke, f rocked in apricot flounced georgette, d with sequinne shoulder Scarf. Miss K. MacLeod, wearing- buttercup taffeta with drapings of tulle. Miss N. Aickin, in a frock of periwinkle blue embossed georgette, with touches of silver. Miss llita Burnside, whose frock was of oysetr coloured lace, with wide taffeta sash and shoulder spray. Miss K. Bryant, who wore an anklelength frock of mist blue taffeta, with touches of silver. Miss P. Weston, wearing taffeta finished with tiny gold posies. Miss K. Waters, in a pretty picture frock of pink ninon. Miss Ailsa White, who wore electric blue georgette, mounted on gold lame. Miss May Dreadon, wearing a period frock of flesh frilled taffeta and georgette. Miss Dorothy Foster, who had chosen soft new blue georgette, with deep side drapings, finished with a pearl, and diumanet buckle. Miss Margaret McFarland, who was wearing ivory crepe satin. Miss Joyce Knight, in apple green draped georgette Miss Mabel Bryant, frocked in leaf green flared georgette. Miss Margaret Wilson, who wore a dainty gown of cameo frilled tulle. Miss Ruby Wallace, in apple green draped georgette, with corsage of ring velvet. Miss Dot Weston, whose pretty frock was of gentian blue charmeuse, falling in deep side points, finished with silver lace. Miss Molly Upton, in drawn tinted ninon. with wide taffeta sash. Miss Eade, wearing green pin- tucked georgette, with bodice of rainbow lame. Miss Phyl. Orr. whose apricot georgette frock was relieved with silver lace. Miss Snelling, in a wistaria georgette frock, with posy trimmings. Miss Dorrie Waters, who wore a frock of sunkist crepe de chine, panelled with silver lame, and finished with soft shaded blue shoulder posy. Miss N. Mellsop, wearing a graceful frock of dull rose taffeta, with side drapings to form an uneven hem. Miss Clara Bryant, in a dainty frock of rose chantilly lace. Miss Cutforth, wearing wedgewood blue panne velvet, with relief of rose beige georgette. Miss Doris Bryant, who had on a mauve taffeta frock. Miss Elsie Thomas, wearing black georgette, with overskirt of guipure lace. Miss E. Matauschka, whose lettuce green crepe faille gown was trimmed with gold tissue. Miss Snelling. in cedar rose georgette, with uneven hemline. IN LEAF GREEN Miss Mona Waters, wearing a dainty frock of leaf green crepe de chine, with tiny georgette frills. Miss Dot Leighton, in crimson georgette. Miss Rona Lipscombe, weaving georgette in soft shades of rose. Miss Montgomerie, who wore a gown of mist blue petalled taffeta. Miss Gladys MacCaulay, in sunrise taffeta, with silver lace overskirt. Miss Jukes (Manurewa). wearing silver lace mounted on orchid crepe de chine. Miss Dickinson, who had chosen a smart frock of blacK velvet, with relief of almond green. Miss M. Foster, who wore a picture frock of rose shaded net. Miss Phyllis Healey, whose pretty gown was of china blue ninon, with uneven skirt. Miss Duleie Grinter, in cyclamen shaded frilled ninon. j Miss Elina Clapham, wearing apple green georgette, with trimmings of gold. Miss Muriel Morey, who wore a freck of unrelieved black velvet. Miss Audrey Fitness, in almond green crepe satin finished on hip with diamante buckle. Miss Isabel Gow, wearing peach-col-oured charmeuse, with uneven hem. Miss Iris Barker, who wore a period frock of ivory taffeta. Miss E. Rennie, whose pretty frock was of apple green soft satin, with skirt of tiny frills. Miss McFarland, frocked in bois de rose crepe de chine. Miss R.. Booth, who had chosen leaf green embossed crepe de chine. Miss Rae Stonex, wearing black georgette appiiqued in shades of rpse. Miss V. O’Hara, who was wearing a rainbow-tinted tulle frock. Miss E. Runciman, in jade green draped crepe de chine. Miss Duncan, in black georgette, with relief of gold. Miss V. Aickin, whose frock was of marigold georgette, with uneven hem. Miss T. Thomas, whose gown was of shell pink crepe de chine finished with net frills. Miss F. Caple, frocked in orchid georgette. banded with silver. Others present were: Mrs. J. Bryant, Mrs. Weston, Mrs. J. McFarland, Mrs. \Y. Wright, Miss M. Gow, Mrs. G. Runciman, Mrs. O. Self, Mrs. F. E.
