R.N.V.R’S DAY
BASE OPENED BY GOVERNORGENERAL COMMODORE ALSO PRESENT The new training base of the Auckland Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was officially opened this afternoon by his Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles Fergusson, Bart., L. K.C.8., G.C.M.C., D. 5.0., M.
There was a full parade of. members of the division, and Commodore G. .T.C. P. Swabey, commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and staff, were present. Captain J. R. Middleton, D. 5.0., R.N.V.R., Director of New Zealand Naval Reserves, and Commander Nelson Clover, commanding officer of H.M.S. Philomel, were guests. The parade was taken by Commander F; A. Hull, officer commanding the Auek land Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, and he had as his second in command Lieutehant-Com-mander C. H. T. Palmer, R.N.V.R., divisional staff officer.
The new headquarters of the division, which have been built with a grant of £3,500 from the New Zealand Navy Board, are situated at the foot of Jacob’s Ladder, in St. Mary’s Bay. and comprise a commodious parade hall, with quarters for officers and men. Two four-inch semi-automatic guns have been installed, and other equipment, formerly lacking, for the training of reservists is embodied in the scheme.
