WHEN VELOUR HATS LOOK SHABBY
Shabby velour hats maV be given a new lease of life with very little trouble, and at practically no cost. If the hat is free from grease and stains, brush it thoroughly to remove loose dust and dirt. This process will be rendered much easier if the hat is slightly warmed beforehand. Now take a sheet of very fine-grade sandpaper, divide it into four, and holding one of the sections firmly over the hard, fiat back of a clothes-brush, pass it lightly over the velour, rubl I g with a gentle, even movement o\ev crown, sides, and brim. Warm the hat again and shake it free of the loose particles ’.at have formed; brush well with a fairly hard brush, and it will take on a rich, glossy appearance, almost equal to new. Very much worn places should be restored before the hat is cleaned. Dissolve half an ounce each of borax and camphor in a pint of boiling water; allow’ to cool, and add a gill of methylated spirit. Sponge the worn parts well with this solution, leave to dry for 24 hours, and proceed with the cleaning. Any reviving solution left over may be bottled for future use. but take care to cork it tightly and store in a cool place
