HARBOUR BOARD GIVES CONSENT j MR. BLOODWORTH'S COMMENTS The Oevonport Borough Council has given consent to erect the gas chamber in the naval dockyard at Devonport, subject to there being innocuous gas used, and the Auckland Harbour Board, at a meeting yesterday, also gave consent. A recomruendation from tlie board-in-committee tbat consent be granted, subject to the approval of the Devonport Borough Council, brought the question before the board. Since the committee meeting the Council had advised that the naval authorities had | said the gas would be innocuous; ac- i cordingly the council had withdrawn j its objections. . Mr. T. Bloodworth said he had little faith in the military or naval mind j generally. He would not feel safe if i he were a resident of Devonport if i there was a cylinder of poison gas in | the neighbourhood. Mr. H. B. Burnett, the superintend- j ent, said the chamber was to be used ; for testing gas masks.
